Spatially Augmented RealityFebruary 11, 2009
I have finally found the time to sit down and read Spatially Augmented Reality: Merging Real and Virtual Worlds. After reading assorted odds and ends papers about SAR, this book really solidifies the current knowledge in the field. Chapter 4, on Geometric Projection techniques is a great, not too technical primer on augmenting non-trivial surfaces. The book is generally written well and is much easier to understand than the underlying papers. However, the book does assume a great deal of knowledge about interactive computer graphics and computer vision. I have also found that some of the explainations only make sense to me because I have read the underlying paper. All in all Spatially Augmented Reality is a great primer on work in the field, although it should be read along with consulting the referenced papers.
The best part of the book is that it is available for free online, although I’m sure they would love it if you purchased a hard copy.
